Shehbaz Sharif arrested in money laundering case By NAB

PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif  arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday after the Lahore High Court rejected his bail plea in a money laundering case.

Shahbaz take into custody from the court’s law, where number of PML-N workers and supporters gathered ahead of the hearing.

Last week, the LHC delayed the pre-arrest bail of Shahbaz. Arguments of his counsel were in progress and directed him to conclude his arguments in the next hearing.

Reacting to Shahbaz’s arrest, PML-N president Maryam Nawaz in a tweet: “Make no mistake. Shahbaz Sharif arrested ONLY because he REFUSED to play in the hands of those who wanted to use him against his brother. He preferred standing behind prison bars than to stand against his brother.”

Another Tweet:-

“If there were accountability and justice in this country. Shahbaz Sharif did not arrest but Asim Bajwa and his family arrested.”

Marriyam Auranzaib:-

PML-N information secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb slammed this arrest. It was political victimization by the government.

Bilawal Bhutto:-

Bilawal Bhutto, in a statement, slammed Shahbaz’s arrest and demanded his immediate release.

“Sending notices and arresting opposition leaders is a sign of Imran Khan’s worry. Imran Khan should stop using NAB for revenge.” he said.

“The federal government immediately release opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif.”

Information Minister Shibli Faraz talking to a private news channel, “However the reference should not be turned into a political case”. He added that the decision had taken by a court and was the result of the opposition leader’s corruption.

Money laundering case

A total of 20 people nominated in the reference, including Yasir Mushtaq, Muhammad Mushtaq, Shahid Rafiq and Aftab Mahmood.

So, main suspects are Shahbaz’s wife Nusrat, his sons Hamza and Suleman , his daughters Rabia Imran and Javeria Ali.

According to NAB, Shahbaz accumulated assets worth Rs7,328mn.

The accountability further said that the accused in the case had “created fake sources of income” in order to “justify the assets” which are beyond their known sources of income.

Shahbaz arrested on Oct 5, 2018, in other cases (Ramzan Sugar Mills and Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme).
