Pakistan v South Africa Preview:

Should a world record fall in a stadium empty of spectators while the eyes of the cricket-watching masses are focused on another game 6,979 kilometres away, has it really fallen? We could find out on Saturday, when South Africa and Pakistan meet in Johannesburg in the first of four T20Is even as the Chennai Super Kings and the Delhi Capitals are playing the second match of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

A comparison of the viewership figures on the matches would make interesting reading, but Heinrich Klaasen, South Africa’s captain, didn’t need that to know which was the bigger deal. “The IPL is a massive competition; it’s almost like a second World Cup for those players,” Klaasen told an online press conference on Friday. South Africa are facing a tough battle at the moment.

Having lost the ODI series 2-1, they will now have to deal with Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks’ absence, who been ruled of the T20I series due to injuries. South Africa will need to overcome all odds if they were to win this series. Pakistan are aiming for another series win against South Africa after winning the ODI series. The green shirts defeated South Africa by a 2-1 margin when they played the last T20I series in Pakistan. They would want to repeat a similar performance on South African soil as well.

Pakistan v South Africa Live Scorecard:

Pitch Condition & Weather report:

The pitch at the Wanderers favoured the batters to a large extent in the ODI series as both teams managed scores in excess of 300. Even in T20Is, history suggests that the games have been pretty high-scoring. Batting second should be the way forward for the teams. The playing conditions would be sunny with a temperature around 26 degrees Celsius.
