North Macedonia vs Liechtenstein Preview:
North Macedonia will have a nice opportunity to get their World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign up and running on Sunday evening when they play host to Liechtenstein in the second round.
The Macedonians are probably still celebrating the maiden qualification for a major tournament. They were the team that took advantage of the UEFA Nations League merits to advance to EURO 2021 by winning the League D European Championship play-offs. They’ve done so by beating Georgia 0-1 in mid-November last year.
Igor Angelovski’s troops have generally played very well in the previous Nations League campaign as well. They lost just one of six games in League C Group 2 against Armenia, Georgia, and Estonia.
It was, however, only enough for the second place in the group. We also have to praise the Macedonians for a solid finish to the previous regular EURO qualifications as they’ve picked up three wins in the last five games against the likes of Latvia, Slovenia, and Israel.
HEAD TO HEAD:
- North Macedonia have been the dominant force in this match-up historically.
- They won eight and drew one of nine clashes against Liechtenstein.
- The two teams played in the same group of the 2018 UEFA Nations League campaign when North Macedonia picked up two easy wins (4-1 at home and 0-2 on the road).

We all know that Liechtenstein are anything but a prolific attacking team. They proved it in the previous UEFA Nations League campaign as well, failing to score more than three goals in four matches against the likes of Gibraltar and San Marino. They scored only two goals in the entire European Championship qualifying campaign (ten games), but they managed to hold the likes of Greece and Armenia to draws in the process.
North Macedonia have always been at a higher level than their Sunday counterparts. After all, they’ve beaten Liechtenstein eight out of nine teams so far. We have reasons to believe the gap in quality between the two teams is even greater now. This is why we will take the 2.05 odds offered for North Macedonia to win by at least three goals difference here.
Possible Playing XI:
