New Zealand vs Australia Preview:
The Trans-Tasman rivals, Australia and New Zealand are set to renew their rivalry in the shortest format of the game with a five-match T20I series.
Australia, on the other hand, has also travelled with 18 players given the new norms and the visitors are also missing some of their first-choice players who were supposed to tour South Africa for a Test series. This series presents a chance for some of the BBL performers to show their skills at the highest level and expect this to be an enthralling series for the fans.
Jhye Richardson felt exhausted a day after the IPL auction as if he had played a game. Riley Meredith was busy converting Richardson’s bid into Australian dollars when his name came up. “It went a bit out of control,” is how the uncapped pacer put it. In another room, Kyle Jamieson had woken up just in time to see Royal Challengers Bangalore bid INR 15 crore for the pacer.
Even with the euphoria of bagging high-paying deals with IPL franchises now behind them, the players will have to get used to playing under the spotlight now. And practice their answers for when they are asked if the money brings in some additional pressure. While it’s unlikely they’ll feel the pressure of the massive deals till they land for the IPL, it’ll be hard to escape the murmurs, and the banter, about their stint at the IPL. No doubt the focus will be squarely on winning matches for their countries, and on the bigger picture – the T20 World Cup in India – but the five-match T20I series is also a chance for them to get in shape for the biggest domestic tournament in the world.
Pitch report & Weather report:
The sample size to predict or conclude anything at the Hagley Oval is extremely limited: this is the only second T20I fixture at the venue and the first under lights. Although, if the domestic records are anything to go by, the 15-12 ratio of wins in favor of the chasers is slightly suggestive that defending totals is not the most ideal choice. There is no trouble expected from the skies.
New Zealand is favorite to win the match.
