David Warner had already finished a lengthy stint in all four nets at the SCG by then. He’d then even picked up a spare wanger and chucked a few deliveries at some of his other teammates.
And now he was back for another hit with Sridharan Sriram, his throwdown specialist of choice. For a moment, it looked like Warner wasn’t completely sure of whether he wanted to face spin or pace.
He muttered a few words under his breath and asked Sriram to toss his arm guard over before running across and getting it himself. The decision had been made.
Warner faced just under two dozen deliveries off Sriram, with his left foot at times getting right outside off-stump while going back and across, focusing mainly on pushing length balls through the covers or rocking back and cross-batting the same length through mid-wicket.
He got a couple of “played Daveys” too from Sriram, which he acknowledged with a nod.
Warner eventually finished this late-shift net by getting his front-foot out to a slightly fuller delivery and driving it with full intensity past Sriram. He then went out and resumed his wanging duties to his potential opening partner Will Pucovski.
Incidentally, Rohit Sharma would finish his final net stint with a very similar shot to a very similar delivery towards the exact same location later in the day. That too had come on the back of a long session for the Indian opener, where he mainly faced the new-ball in two separate nets, giving the spinners a miss.

Weather and Pitch Conditions:
The one major question regarding the pitch going into the SCG Test this time was whether the curator had been asked to prepare another one – in case the Brisbane Test was shifted. It was only when Adam Lewis insisted he hadn’t that the focus shifted to the surface that the two teams will do battle on over the next five days. Unlike its reputation, the SCG hasn’t always been in total favour of the spinners and if anything has been a wicket that sums up the many characteristics of all the various Test venues around Australia.
